Invest Like a Dealmaker: Secrets from a Former Banking Insider (Agora Series)

Invest Like a Dealmaker: Secrets from a Former Banking Insider (Agora Series)

Invest Like a Dealmaker outlines an approach to investing that is far removed from what most investors have been conditioned to believe, but which has produced consistent profits for its practitioners decade after decade. While the concepts covered are not well known by the average investor, they are well appreciated by Wall Street insiders and dealmakers—particularly those who think about stocks as whole companies, as things with real assets, and cash flows that exist in the real world.

Is changing careers to investment banking at age 34 achieveable?

Question by yong_kyosunim: Is changing careers to investment banking at age 34 achieveable?
I’m 34 years old and I want to change careers. I want to work in an investment banking firm such as UBS or Barclays and build up a brand new career. I currently work for a non-profit state university doing something related to accounting/finance but nothing like investment banking though I worked for a hedge fund for just a dismal 10 months (during the dot.com bust). I’m currently also attending an online university for my MBA and possibly going for a CFA or CPA since it’s only four more classes with the MBA. Is this a possibility or am I just fooling myself to get this kind of job?

It is absolutely possible, but will take some time. Do you have a few years to spare? If so – go for it!

Best jobs with Finance BBA without MBA to prepare for future investment banking?

Question by inv3s7or: Best jobs with Finance BBA without MBA to prepare for future investment banking?
I’ll only have a BBA in Finance and I’ve heard it’s hard to get a job in investment banking without MBA so what’s a job I should get in the meantime that will be useful to the future career in investment banking or private equity?

Answer by Lai L
If you’re a recent grad with high GPA and sometime a good school will help, many banks have “associate programs” that they will invest in you for 1 year to 1.5 years. I work at a large bank in Charlotte and they have such training programs. Salary is pretty good too!

Other than that maybe a “treasury analyst” or any where in the “fixed income trading” or “middle office analyst”

Good Luck!
These are great starts to a high paying career in Corporate Investment Banking!

From Canada’s leading expert on consumer banking, this easy-to-read, indispensable book will help you keep your hard-earned money working for you.

Canadians are savvy consumers of everything – except financial products. We comparison shop for new cars and new clothes, but when it comes to our money, most of us passively hand it over to banks and other institutions. The result? Our earnings languish in bank accounts that pay out zero interest while raining down fees, or in mutual funds
